minibreak

Boysbench

the boys’ school was closed on thursday and friday, so we decided to take the days off as well and go on a much-needed minibreak—how bridget jones of us! we packed up the kiddos and the car and headed up i-75 to the pretty little town of ringgold, georgia. why ringgold? well, tripper’s parents just bought a place there and a little time with the grandparents is just what the doctor ordered.

we arrived early thursday afternoon and headed straight for the chattanooga aquarium. alex was super excited standing in line to get in …

max was, too. so excited that he decided to sport his zoo atlanta elephant hat. backwards.

the chattanooga aquarium is much more hands-on than the one in atlanta. here are the boys petting the stingrays …

alex had his first escalator ride …

max was too scared, but he later conquered that fear and had his first escalator ride as well …

above you can see the start of the max meltdown that meant it was time to go. thankfully we had pretty much seen all there was to see—four floors, salt water and fresh, sea horses, sharks and nemo.

we headed home for a cookout and a little stargazing. i love this next picture …

Stargazing

the boys did not go to bed until after 10 o’clock, but they also slept in the next day, which was great! it gave me some time alone with papa ger’—in fact, i talked his ear off for almost two hours!

when the boys finally woke up, we headed back to chattanooga, but this time to the kid’s museum. wow!

all smocked up and ready to get wet …

and after max put his hair in the water …

they had a great time at the children’s museum. really great. i think we all did! we got home and mama lin’ had the boys help her pick fresh tomatoes from the garden.

after dinner, papa ger’ and daddy took the boys down to the lake to skip rocks. i love this next picture …

Lakerock

i love it not just because it’s a great moment of a grandfather and his grandsons caught on film, but also because of this …

Lakerock2

oh alex. how ever did you throw that rock straight up above your head?? now that’s talent.

after the male bonding at the lake, the boys were introduced to the garden hose. they loooooved it!

ps—i never got a picture of their new house, but managed to find one on the internet. isn’t it fantastic? i love a big front porch …

  2. Oh my gosh..it looks like you guys had a blast! I can’t believe how big they’re getting..just adorable! And what a pretty house!

  3. Love all the pictures. What a great trip! We are actually going to Chattanooga for a quick overnight Anniversary trip but we are taking Zoe with us, would you recommend the aquarium or the Children’s museum for Zoe? We are only going up on Saturday morning, coming back on late Sunday afternoon. We can leave our house and be in Chattanooga in 1.5 hours so this will be one of many trips I’m sure. Glad you guys had such a great trip. Alex and Max are so adorable. How special are the photos with them and their Grandparents. What a beautiful home they have.
