heat wave

it is so hot that my iphone actually just flashed a warning that said, “temperature! you must wait for iphone to cool down before using.” i kid you not. i had to wait a good 15 minutes before i was able to send this message!

Hands

tripper snapped this on our walk tonight. i wish someone else had been nearby to get take the picture—the boys walked hand-in-hand-in-hand (picture tripper on the other end holding alex’s other hand) almost half way around the neighborhood. that’s never happened before!

we walked to the last remaining “under-construction” street in hopes of seeing a tractor. we saw two wheelbarrows and met some new neighbors instead. the boys were satisfied with that.

rug burn

(first the “burn” part of the title):
max woke up this morning hot to the touch. his temperature wasn’t as high as it felt—101°—but it was high enough that school was out. as we got in the car to take alex, max’s temp read 100.4°—the exact number that is the cutoff for not being able to go. he was acting just fine, but we aren’t ones to break the rules. ok, we are ones to break the rules, but not this rule. it’s just not fair to the other kids (and by kids i mean parents). so, we dropped off alex and then set out to have a mommy and me day with max—until 3:30 when tripper comes home to take over and i begin cover duty for work.

we hit up the starbucks for coffee and lemon cake and apple juice and then decided to drive up to the outlet mall just to see what they had. we were hoping for a steal on patio furniture …

(and now for the “rug” part of the title):
.. but instead we stumbled on an area rug. literally, we tripped over the thing. it peaked my interest. in fact, i couldn’t get it out of my head. it wasn’t anything like any of the rugs i’ve been picturing for our space. it had a bold pattern and was a deep navy blue, almost black. we went up one aisle and came back. still there. we went down another aisle. still there. we circled the whole store. still there. finally we sauntered over to it, afraid to look at the price. you guys, it was an 8×10 $899 rug for $149. i’d have been a fool not to, right?

i am no fool. 😉

it’s totally not what i pictured for the space—i was on the hunt for something in a pale silvery blue/gray color—but i really love it. it seems very kate spade to me. and if it hadn’t worked here, i was thinking it would be lovely in the dining room as well. my mum says never to buy anything unless you can picture it in two places in your house. that’s a good rule of thumb.

and now that the rug is in, the room is finally finished. hahaha. you are so gullible! now that the rug is in, i’m thinking i need to do some fun window treatments and make a painting for above the kids’ table. then the room will be done.

Bounce

the boys went to their little friend reese’s birthday party at a bounce house on saturday. their first time at a bounce house! because nobody was standing still and there was no firm ground to speak of (jumpy-jumpy-jumpy), all our pictures came out fuzzy. i still think the one above is priceless. and the one below? they had all the party guests sit down under a HUGE blow-up likeness of spiderman for a professional photograph. look at my baby goofball. i love it that he’s waving at daddy!

Bouncealex

the little girl with the pink bow is the birthday girl, reese, and the little girl in yellow is their classmate ashley. and where is max you ask? did you hear me mention the HUGE spiderman? he was terrified of it and was clinging to mommy for dear life!

the horse whisperers

Horse2

we took the boys to chastain park this morning to see the horses. we met three—shadow, fender and charlotte. alex touched fender right on the nose. max didn’t dare. but he did warm up to charlotte. she was white with freckles and was eating grass. he also got a kick out of a horse named pinky. he repeated pinky, pinky, pinky over and over and over.

it’s funny to me that alex is the fearless one. i don’t think i would have told you that last year. he really does like to experience new things. yesterday we took them to a classmate’s birthday party at a bounce house place and alex did every ride with daddy. some of them were even scary to me—straight! down! slides! and max? well, max would only go in the bounce house. he had a ton of fun in there though (so did i). and he clung to me the rest of the time, which i didn’t mind one bit. 😉 the pictures totally didn’t turn out, but there are a few funny ones i’m planning to post anyway tomorrow. stay tuned!

oh, nose

max decided for breakfast to put the chex cereal into his nose instead of his mouth. really? your nose, max? i ran to grab the tweezers thinking i could grab the little square grid before it got a) too soft and mushy or 2. up too high, then i thought the better of it. sharp tweezers + toddler nose? no thank you. max is way too squirmy and doesn’t quite get “sit still” yet. then a light bulb went off. or should i say a suction bulb? i used saline drops to soften the cereal square and then used the nose sucker to sluuuuuuuuurp! i’m happy to say we got every last soggy crumb.

as for alex, his lip swelled up pretty big during night and you can see the whole of the cut now. it’s pretty bad—like a split blueberry right in the middle of his lip. it makes it hard for him to enjoy his neenee. maybe this is the weekend he gives up the bink? i’ll keep you posted.
